The dog just walked over to where I am sitting on the couch and licked the bottom of my slipper.

sleeping in

posted by friedApplePie in life @ 9:22 am

I panned on letting myself sleep in this morning, but woke up at 8:40 anyway. So I figured I’d lie in bed with my laptop for a few hours instead. In some ways sleeping in always sounds like such a nice thing to do. But really, what’s the point? I never feel all that much more rested (unless I’m sick) and I’ve missed much of the day. I guess it’s really just symbolic of being able to sleep in that’s attractive these days. I’m not sure if I’ve earned lounging in bed this morning or not, and I have no idea if I’m going to be totally slammed with work tomorrow. Oh well. Here I am.

tedious recap

posted by friedApplePie in life @ 10:37 am

I think I’ve been out the last 5 nights in a row, and have a dinner thing tonight as well. I’m not complaining, and actually feel very lucky to have a lot of wonderful people to hang out with. However, I am tired and discombobulated and the house is a mess.

So on Friday The Little Red Haired Girl and I went to a party at the house of a friend from school. She has somehow managed to meet every other lesbian in Nashville, and half of them were there. That was nice, as we have very little queer community here. We met some cool people that we definitely want to hang out with more.

The next night was the opening at The Parthenon, where The Little Red Haired Girl has been working hard to put up the new show. The exhibit is amazing, and I encourage everyone to go. Not only was the exhibit really great, but a bunch of people from all different parts of our lives came - the dog park, school, and people from Friday night’s party. Afterward we had drinks with school friends, which was really chill and nice.

Sunday was Superbowl day, of course. We began the evening hanging out with our New Little Buddies in their new hot tub. Woah. An hour later, after we were all warm and limp and dried off we headed over to a new lesbian friend’s place to watch football. Shockingly, in a room full of lesbians, only about 5 people were really into the football.

I spent Monday trying to catch up on all the work that didn’t get done over the weekend. That night we had dinner over at Everything Guy’s house before he and I buckled down to try and figure out what to do about our skateboarding research and our upcoming presentation.

Last night I had class until 7, and fully intended to go home and have a quiet evening alone (since The Little Red Haired Girl had to work late). Of course I went to trivia instead with Mischief Man and company.

Today I am tired, totally unmotivated, and trapped at school because The Little Red Haired Girl needs the car. We are going over a friend’s place for dinner again tonight. I don’t know why I bother buying groceries.

The end.

oliver sees his first snow

posted by friedApplePie in our animals; and nashville; and life @ 8:01 am

This morning The Little Red Haired Girl woke me up with the news that it had snowed last night. Ever skeptical about “snow” here in Nashville, I just nodded and smiled. Undeterred, she told me it was still on the ground, and Oliver was playing in it. She had that look on her face and that tone in her voice that people do sometimes when they talk about snow. I think it’s part awe, part wonder, part excitement, and part “I’m sharing something magical with you.” She definitely never felt this way about snow when we were living in Boston. Maybe it being Oliver’s first snow, The Little Red Haired Girl was seeing it through his excited little eyes. Anyway, I got up to see:

Apparently he keeps eating it. Cute, right?

7:26pm

posted by friedApplePie in life @ 7:28 pm

Yes, that is the current time. Yes, I’m in bed. I figure if I’m this tired, it’s my body trying to tell me something. I’m going to listen to it.
An alternative is just that I’ve become extremely lazy.
I’ll risk it.
Maybe I’ll just lie here and blog until a more respectable time to go to sleep (45 minutes or so).

two-finger scroll

posted by friedApplePie in nerdy things; and life @ 1:34 pm

I just discovered the two-fingered scroll and two-fingered right-click in OSX. Holy shit. It changes my life. I don’t know why I never tried it before, but yesterday afternoon I went into my system preferences for some reason, and apparently for the first time, looked at the options for trackpad settings. Now I never have to drag the cursor over to a scroll bar (although I can’t get the horizontal scroll to work when I’m in Parallels), or ctrl-click again. Wow. I bet that’s like an extra 3 minutes per day that that’ll save me. Productivity indeed!
