the world is your acorn

Oliver is off getting his hair did today, so I’m home all alone. It’s a weird feeling. It’s not as if when we’re here together we interact all that much. But I know he’s around, and if I get bored I can play with him or just look and see what he’s doing. And there’s also the guilt of sitting around doing nothing instead of taking him on a walk or something. Well, today it’s just me. I’m getting a lot of things done that are difficult when he is around, like mopping and mowing. Still though, the house feels strangely empty. I’ll be glad when he comes home, even if he is a needy little bugger.

I’m going to the dentist this afternoon for a cleaning. Hopefully it will be quick, but I still feel like it’s ruining my day. Here’s why I hate going to the dentist:

• I have bad teeth. It’s never a good report
• They always make me feel guilty, even though they’re making bundles of money off me
• I don’t like strangers or making small talk. The dentist office is filled with strangers, and at least one is guaranteed to be staring into your face for an indeterminate amount of time each time you go
• I don’t have dental insurance, and dentist visits are expensive
• I’m paying people for something that makes me unhappy
• Half the time I’m suspicious I’m getting ripped off with unnecessary and/or shoddy work

Well, it’s what I get for a lifetime of not flossing, I suppose.
